Carnello visited the “Tierheim im Tal” www.utulokdca.sk in Slovakia like he does every year at Christmas time. This time we were able to treat them to something very special. Namely Mrs. Wickler from Luxembourg sent two lorries full with building materials there in December because the animal shelter's lease was terminated. In the coming months it has to move and be completely rebuilt. Everyone was thrilled about this generous donation. But that wasn't all. She also sent a large amount of treats, feed, toys, blankets and much more. We took over the gift giving in her name on the third Sunday of Advent. It was nice but somehow also depressing. In particular, we haven't been able to stop thinking about a black Great Dane who was merely skin and bones, 3-year-old Max, since then. He was given to the shelter because his owners could no longer buy any dog food for him. Max cannot stay in the animal shelter over the winter. It's very cold for him outside in the kennel with his short-haired coat. Therefore, our wishes for Christmas have been minimised - a new home for Max... that would be the best gift.

Carnello was at the dog exhibition in Wiesbaden on the St. Nicholas Day weekend. Every interested dog lover got information and free samples regarding our dogy-cocktail and the other goodies. The dog exhibition took place in Wiesbaden for the first time and was one of the most diversified exhibitions of its kind in Germany with its richly filled programme. Apart from a wide variety of beautiful Christmas gifts for dogs, there was a dog-dance tournament and a demonstration with dog frisbees. The incredible skills of our four-legged friends could be marvelled at during flyball or at the Hundini circus. The film dogs also put on a professional show. People with particularly pretty dogs had the opportunity of presenting them to a jury searching for “Wiesbadens next Dog-Model” . A highlight for all dog lovers and a special attraction compared to other dog exhibitions was surely the doctor's consultation with „Dr. Wolf“, the well-known and popular veterinarian from the programme „HundKatzeMaus“ on VOX. He answered many questions, most of which had to do with the subject of nutrition and healthy feed. That confirmed that we are precisely fulfilling the wishes and requirements of animal owners with our high quality and above all healthy products.

On 11/24 Carnello was in the Fressnapf store in Ingolstadt. Something very special was planned this time - a professional photo shoot with the company Studioline. Every visitor could have photos taken of his or her pet on location and take them home with them right away. The four-legged models were given our delicious dogy-chips as a treat and their owners were offered pug fruit gums from Haribo in the shape of Germany's most famous pug Sir Henry. Of course Sir Henry had to be their in person to see how good it tastes. After he made sure that he not only looked sweet but also tasted that way , he was also able to give his excited fans many autographs with the help of this owner Uschi Ackermann.

Many visitors of the Carnello site have gotten to know our “problem child”, the animal shelter in the valley, in Slovakia. In this news we numerously reported on the developments from the animal shelter of Mr Viliam Jaros. We have already achieved many things there and more has been done since Uschi Ackermann, PR-lady from Munich, has come on board.
And so, as in the past year, Mrs Ackermann invited Mr Jaros on October 21th and some of his friends to Munich to the Franziskaner. For Mr Jaros it was a big day, his only day off in the year! Usually, he too, just as the four-legged friends, is, so to speak, locked up around the clock. The meeting was great, although it was unfortunately noticeable that also some animal lovers at the table only come around to be within public “proximity” of Mrs. Ackermann. The point of the meeting to support Mr. Jaros, the man, who saved the life of more than 5000 (!) maltreated animals alone in the past 12 years, had somehow apparently been forgotten.
Completely contrary to the very much engaged Mrs Wickler from Luxembourg though. She and her small Chihuahua Tonia had taken on the long journey, only to meet and greet Mr Jaros and too see, whether her regular donations are in good hands and at the right place. We can confirm that both departed contently…
Pusinka, the ill, one-eyed pug girl that was taken up by Mrs Ackermann from this exact animal shelter 1.5 years ago also participated in the meeting. And he who now would expect a huge joyful reunion with Mr Jaros, her lifesaver, is mistaken. Pusinka acted the whole time as though she had never seen him before. One could almost see what she probably was thinking: "Oh boy! Just watch out that he does not take me with and place me in the animal shelter again.” ... Please Pusinka, you do not have to worry about that at all.

In the beginning of October, Carnello travelled up to the far North, up to Sweden to visit the ZOORF. The large trade fair for domestic animal needs took place from 10.-11.10. in Stockholm and was always worth the journey. Beside the international brands from the animal feed and accessory industry, also many Scandinavian companies were represented. For cat-owners, there were two completely new novelties. A flashlight “urine OFF”, that seeks out cat urine with a ultraviolet light and a door bell particularly designed for cats, which plays a melody when the cat enters the house through the door-flap. To our large relief the initial fear was not confirmed, that Sweden would process reindeer Rudolf and friends to animal food. Carnello could make many new contacts and in the future will hopefully spoil the Scandinavian four-legged friends with delicious snacks in gourmet-quality.

Carnello was on October 3rd for the first time at the bpt-congress in Nuremberg, Germanys largest veterinary specialised exhibition organised by the Federal association of practicing veterinary surgeons. Almost 160 companies presented their extensive offer in a large exhibition hall. From special feed and medicines up to medical instruments and accessories, everything that one could think to have in a veterinary practice was available.
In addition and for the professional attendees, there was an extensive advanced training offer on medical and business subjects. It was remarkable that on the fair, an enormous quantities of promotional gifts were distributed. Also there were free of charge fresh juices, midday menus and most diverse Desserts at some booths. This generosity seems to be a tradition within the industry and the many visitors, although exhausted in the afternoon, rather contentedly dragged bags of gifts back home.

Mirror, mirror... no, it was not the dogs themselves that chose the most beautiful, but a jury. Strictly speaking, the Wiesn Zamperl 2009 was chosen in the Munich Fressnapf branch in Trudering on October 2nd . Because every owner is convinced that his or her dog is the most beautiful, the turn-around was massive. From small to big and from young to old, many dogs came to the competition.
The jury, consisting of PR-lady Uschi Ackermann, Elke Pfeiffer of “Reha for dogs” and Natalie Christov of Carnello, it was not very easy to choose one out of so many wonderful dogs. In the end however, three winners were found that won great prizes.
Third place was given to a small black dog that was found by its mistress in a garbage can. The prize was a wellness-package for the dog. The second prize, which was won by a cute pug lady was sponsored by Carnello and consisted of a large gift hamper, plus a 75€ shopping voucher for Fressnapf.
And the first prize, a 150€ Wiesn voucher through Feinkost Käfer went unanimously to Easy - a proud 18 years old! Still really fit, she won the hearts of all with her loving way.
All participants in the competition received a nice welcoming gift and for all other dogs, Schwanzwedler beer and our delicious dogy-chips were given to try for free. Beside this culinary spoiling program, the physical well being was also cared for: Mrs Pfeiffer gave the dogs a free of charge well-being massage and showed their owners some pleasant hand movements for home.

Carnello was from 25.-27.9. at the petbiz in Sofia, the first Bulgarien animal fair. The event lured many visitors into the two exhibition halls. Next to the large international companies, many exhibitors came from Italy and Greece.
Amongst the exhibitors, the company GTP particularly attracted our attention. Behind this company stand two Germans that mainly produce bird food in Bulgaria. The married-couple not only have a good business sense, but also a big heart for animals. More than one dozen dogs live on their production site that they picked up off of the side of the road. Street dogs in Bulgaria are an overall large problem. You will barely find a place in which you will not see them. The Bulgarian however are animal-loving persons and the domestic animal market is just beginning to emerge. There are already some zoo specialist shops with committed personnel and the interest in domestic animals is constantly rising.
Thus it remains to hope that in the course of this development, dogs will gradually disappear off of the streets and taken up into a home.

Has the Wiesn already begun? For those who were in the beer garden on September 10th of the Augustinerkellers would have thought so. With so many attractive ladies in Dirndl dresses and their spruced up dogs in traditional costumes. When having taken a closer look though, it became obvious, that the snazzy boys and girls in their festive day garments were actually Pugs. But wait! A large, black Poodle inconspicuously mingled itself into the Pug group. But luckily his mistress granted him a Pug heart and so he was naturally allowed to join in on the celebration.
Sir Henry, Germany`s most renowned Pug with his mistress Uschi Ackermann, set the invitation to this very special event. Because Henry also had a helping paw, for a good cause of course. The invited guests donated 100€ each on this beautiful afternoon, which was handed over to the Munich Tiertafel, a pet food charity association. And to give thanks, everyone received a little something. Next to Bavarian delicacies, everyone received a bag with a pug novel, a gift voucher for Canis Resort, toys from Koko von Knebel and of course many treats from Carnello. Sir Henry`s dogy-chips could also be tried on site and they were taken up so well by the little gourmets, that many of them even gave paw for one of them. After gormandising, some of the Pugs drove a few rounds on the carousel to tune themselves into the Wiesn, which in fact will start very soon in Munich and as in every year, turns Munich topsturvy.

From 4-6.9. Carnello joined us for the first time at the domestic animal fair in Dresden. The fair for the 20000 visitors offered a broad range on animals, accessories, animal feed and much more. The dog-dance performances as well as the canine fashion show delighted the public. Diverse breed clubs took the advantage to present their animals. Particularly the Dachshund attracted attention. Each time the hunting horns sounded, they expressed their hunting characteristics by enthusiastically and vigorously joining in.
Carnello provided free samples and information for many of the inquisitive dog and cat owners. Particularly the dogy-cocktail was a favourite, which the animal owners praised as meaningful and versatile applicable innovation within the range of animal feeds. But also the animal taste testers were very enthusiastic over the great taste of the dogy-cocktail.

August 2009
Step on in to Kölle-Zoo! On August 1st a very special program was offered at the subsidiary in Weiterstadt: the search was on for Kölle-Zoo`s next dog-model. And because each dog is naturally the most beautiful to its owner, the up-and-coming generation of models came in high numbers. Before though, the more than 30 participants still got a free of charge professional final touch at the markets integrated dog salon. Afterwards the owners proudly led their darlings across the red carpet in eccentric outfits from Doggydolly, where not only the dog but also their owner made a good figure and noticeably had a great deal of fun with it. As a reward, they all embraced wonderful gift hampers. Attractive prizes and an award ceremony were waiting for the three finalists under a rousing applause of the spectators. The small Pug lady Emma was crowned "Kölle Zoo´s next Dogmodel“, which entirely won the hearts of all in the second round in its wedding dress accompanied by her “bridegroom”. Although the bridegroom was more interested in having his head stroked than anything else. So a serenade from the opera singer Sandro Schmalzl was held only for Emma to her victory.
Apart from the dog fashion show there was still another very special program. The visitors could have a photo printed on a sticker of their four-legged friend. There were lectures on the topics "first-aid for your dog“ through the small animal practice AS and „dog care “ through the dog salon. Furthermore, in an exciting presentation, the Greyhound federation presented scarce Greyhound breeds to the attendees. As a very special highlight, the PR-Lady Uschi Ackermann came with her very renowned Pug "Sir Henry" and gave help and advice to all owners and their four legged friends and presented her book "Hier spricht der Mops"-"This is the Pug speaking". Many looked forward to and received an autographed copy of the book. The Carnello favourite was, without a doubt, the canine lady Emily (in the last picture) that presented us with her most beautiful smile for a taste of the dogy-chips.

July 2009

For all dog lovers and those who will be so after reading this, there is a wonderful book out now: „Ich werd' dann mal Hund“ - that which sounds so casual, is in actual fact a most exciting matter. In expression-strong photography’s, the illustrated book shows precious and exquisite moments from the life of a puppy, which are more than just simply „sweet“. Each of the pictures, be it the curious view into the camera, the nap in the afternoon or playful tussle, mediates a unique insight of the personality and behavior of young dogs.
As in her first illustrated book “HundeAugenBlicke”, the success authoress Ruth Marcus proves an incomparable intuition for the nature of these animals. She gains herself a touching closeness to them and eternalizes their charm with her camera. In small stories around the pictures, the photographer retells interesting occurrences about the photo shootings, the joys and contrariness of animal photography, anecdotes of dog owners and moreover information on keeping puppies. This fantastic book not only lets the hearts of fine art photography dog-fanciers and enthusiasts beat faster. But beware: He who does not want to have a dog in his house, should rather not get this book. The risk of falling in love is just too great.

On June 24th a big party was celebrated in Munich- the opening of the 1000th Fressnapf market! Carnello was also there and many visitors flocked to the event. That is to say, a great deal was offered on this special occasion. Apart from a 20% special opening discount on the entire product range, 1000 balloons with 5-Euro gift coupons were sent flying. Furthermore, many celebrities had come to give their support. Martin Rütter, Germany's most well-known dog trainer was ready to answer any questions visitors had regarding dog upbringing. The gourmet-pope Gerd Käfer had his weight made out in feed for a good cause. Of course his pug Sir Henry with its owner Uschi Ackermann didn't want miss out on that. Claire Fisher, founder of the same-named natural cosmetics series, known from chemist's shops was also there and autographed her book “Sammy & Floris”. She donated all the royalties to the Tiertafel Deutschland e.V., a German animal pet food charity which she supports as a sponsor. Not only two-legged but also a true four-legged TV star attended. Dachshund Bodo from the TV show Hausmeister Krause came with his stand-in, lady dog friend and his two dog trainers. With so much entourage one could have expected animalistic airs and graces. But Bodo is a very lovable dachshund and very well grounded. For that we gave him our dogy-chips as a reward which he obviously enjoyed.

Carnello visited the in-house exhibition of the wholesale trade Becker Schoell in Ilsfeld for the first time on 6/21.
100 dealers were registered but far more did not want to miss out on this great event.
No wonder, the organisation was more than perfect and the retail dealers including their families were spoiled in every possible way at the
expense of the exhibiting company. There was a champagne reception and after interesting discussions the guests were able to relax
while listening to live music and enjoying the beautiful weather in the large tent.
Then there were refreshments in the form of a delicious lunch, salad buffet, an ice cream cart and a large cake buffet.
This was already the second in-house exhibition and it is planned to take place regularly every two years.

April 2009
The fulminant premiere of Germany’s first pug dog party was celebrated in Munich on Febuary 25, 2009. The Mini car dealership in the Drygalski-Allee formed the exclusive setting for this very special event. Host Sir Henry, pug dog of PR-lady Uschi Ackermann and gourmet pope Gerd Käfer, sent out the invitations. The guests arrived in flocks – 138 pug dogs and their human escorts who wouldn’t have missed this fantastic evening by any means. No wonder, everything needed for a grand party was at hand. Excellent music, epicurean food by Gerd Käfer for the two-legged, our gourmet dogy-chips for the four-legged and a lot more. Hundreds of prizes were won at the raffle. Our favourite painter Otto Pavlicek even donated a wonderful painting, of course depicting a pug dog. Naturally, all this attracted the press, 10 TV channels and dozens of journalists scrambled for the best pictures and interviews.
The pug dogs had dressed up for the fine event and were overwhelmed to meet so many fellows of kin.
The following evening, the most beautiful dog was voted for, becoming the next Mini pug model. The proud mistress was awarded with a half-carat she happily received. Despite all the glamour, the main issue was a good cause. All the entrance fees of Euros 45 per person were donated. Thanks to the many visitors, a total Euros 11000 were collected. In the light of recent events, Euros 3000 were given to the Tiertafel München and the remaining Euros 8000 went to the overjoyed Ms. Dr. Schramm, who is going to save street dogs in Rumania with it. This evening was a masterful demonstration of how to do much good and have a lot of fun at the same time.

For the first time, Carnello took part in wholesaler Schamberger’s inhouse trade fair on April 26, 2009.
Although being on a bright Sunday, many specialized trade dealers and retailers came from the whole south-west area and
were much rewarded. The Schamberger family treated the visitors to a lavish
buffet: from Bavarian veal sausages and warm pretzels, to roasts and delicious home-made cake.
The reinvigorated guests learned about new products at the stands and received very attractive conditions
for fair orders. Our fair bestseller on this day was indisputably the dogy-cocktail,
agreed upon by both the two-legged and the four-legged friends.

Carnello was present on the “Gesundheit auf vier Beinen” (health on four legs) fair in Bad Lippspringe on April 18 – 19. For two days, the tranquil spa town turned into a meeting point for all interested in pets’ health.
The two- and four-legged visitors were provided with lots of posibilities. The owners were able to have their pet checked by a vet on site and for free, and could attend presentations about most different topics concerning pets’ health.
Toddling guests were awed with a special highlight – being pulled by an Asian Owtscharka through the Arminiuspark
in a Chic handcart. As usual, our stand provided many samples, ready to be tested on sight.
The results: our products are not only tasty, but also healthy – let’s shake paws on it!

For the first time, Carnello took part in the afa – the Augsburg spring fair – on April 3 – 5, luring 98.000 visitors. Exhibition hall 3 A was transformed to a Mecca for animal lovers. A diverse framework programme could be enjoyed by the whole family: from the international pedigree cat exhibition, over information about correct education, up to the daily dog fashion show, sporting the latest dog outfits. Animal health played a central role, as the need for information on correct nutrition and keeping of our four-legged darlings is enormous.
This topic also lies at our heart, which is why each of our visitors received a sample of our natural chewing specialities for dogs and cats. And as you can see on the pictures, our snacks are not only healthy, but also tasty.

January 2009
It is well known that many artists are animal-lovers and vice versa.
On our trip to Munich on January 29, we visited Ms. Pollak who works for our favorite online newspaper
www.isarbote.de, and there we met the artist Otto Pavlicek and got to see some of his impressive works.
His favorite colours are red, gold and white – the colours of his striving for perfection.
We especially liked his animal pictures. Not only the "cat pictures" are superb.
When we asked him for a dog picture for Carnello he was not at all disinclined, to our great pleasure.
Therefore, a "dog picture" was ordered on the spot, of course with every possible artistic freedom of expression.
We are already looking forward to this surprise.
We would like to introduce you to a small collection of his pictures, you can find more at www.pavlicek-otto.de.

January 2009
On January 22 – 25, Carnello visited our most northern customers near the Arctic Circle,
because there are also four-legged friends in Iceland who love our products.
The market for dog articles is rather small but fast-growing.
Our partner there is María Thorvardardóttir with her store Aladdin, founded in 2004.
María has dogs herself, five King Charles Spaniels, and her aim is to find the best products
for her dogs and her customers. Many of her customers are veterinarians, furthermore, the largest and most modern
veterinary hospital in Iceland (photo) and several pet shops trust her expertise.
The island is inhabited by approx. 318 000 people and about 5000-7000 dogs live there, too.
Sadly, you cannot see dogs on the streets,
this is probably mainly due to the strict regulations. In Iceland dogs are not allowed to frequent
public methods of transportation, stores and restaurants. The capital city Reykjavik
even has a street where dogs are completely forbidden. In rented houses, keeping dogs is generally
forbidden and on private property only allowed if high taxes are paid and many regulations observed.
Even if the daily life of dogs is a little bit different in Iceland, we are very happy that we could at least
sweeten it up a bit with María’s help.
